A Short History of the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team that is based in the Buffalo, New York area. The Bills are members of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the NFL. The Bills began playing in 1960 as a charter player in the AFL and joined the NFL as part of the AFL/NFL Merger in 1970. The Bills won two successive AFL titles in 1964 and 1965, but the club has not won a league championship since the merger.

Buffalo is the only team to ever have won four successive AFC Championships, although they have not been able to win any of the following Super Bowls. Buffalo is the only NFL team to play its home games within New York State. Both the NY Giants and the New York Jets play in East Rutherford, New Jersey, outside of New York City.

They are also the only NFL team to play home games in Canada and currently, the only team to have two home sites (only the third in NFL history; alongside the Packers and the Saints).

In 1980, the Bills beat its archrival the Miami Dolphins for the first time in 11 years in their season opener, on their way to winning their first AFC East title. The next year they lost their AFC East title to the Dolphins but won their first NFL playoff game to the Jets.

Rivalries - The Buffalo Bills have three long standing rivalries between themselves and the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots and the New York Jets.
