A Short History of the Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are a professional football team in Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the NFL. The Chicago Bears have won nine Professional American Football league championships (eight NFL Championships and Super Bowl XX), second to the Green Bay Packers who have twelve. The Bears have 26 members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, one of the most in NFL history.
The team was first founded in 1919, in Decatur Illinois. In 1921, they moved to Chicago. Along with the Arizona Cardinals, the Bears are only one of two remaining extinct franchises since the NFL's founding. Through the 1970 season, the team has played all of their home games at Wrigley field. With the exception of the 2002 season, they have played home games at Soldier Field since 1971.
The Bears are headquartered in Halas Hall, located in the Chicago suburb of Lake Forest, Illinois. The team current holds annual training camp from late July to mid-August at the campus of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
Rivalries - The Bears have a heavy and long-time rivalry with the Green Bay Packers with whom they have played in more than 170 games over the years. Their rivalry dates back to 1921 - almost a century ago stemming from an incident in which Halas, who was with the Bears at the time, got the Packers suspended from the league as they were trying to sign a star player so that they could sign said player themselves. The Bears also have a long standing rivaly with the Minnesota Vikings.
