A Short History of the Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals are a professional American football team in Cincinnati, Ohio. They are members of the North Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the NFL. The first season was in 1968, as part of the AFL franchise, but they joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL/NFL Merger. The Bengals summer camp is at Georgetown College, in Georgetown Kentucky and they play home games at Paul Brown Stadium.
In 1937, the Bengals finished with a 2-4-2 record in their first year, but the AFL folded after the season. The Bengals continued as an independent team until 1938 and in 1939 joined the new AFL, taking second place with a 6-2 record. But again, the league folded at the close of the season.
In 1940, once again another AFL emerged and again the Bengals joined. And again the AFL suffered the same affliction as the previous two AFLs before it, folding after the 1941 season as the U.S. entered World War II.
Professional football returned to Cincinnati, in 1967, 26 years later, when Paul Brown headed an ownership group that landed an expansion franchise. Brown, a Pro Football Hall of Famer founded and coached the Cleveland Browns from 1946 through 1962. He picked the name Bengals as the new team name to give it a link with past professional football in Cincinnati.
Rivalries - The Cincinnati Bengals have two main rivalries. The first, with the Cleveland Browns, goes way back to the 1960's when Paul Brown was fired from then-owner of the team, Art Modell. After the AFL Bengals joined the NFL, the rivalry with the Browns began and became known as "The Battle of Ohio" also coined "The I-71 Rivalry." Their second rivalry is of fairly recent decent with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers vs. Bengals dispute was deemed by Sports Illustrated in 2006 to be "The Nastiest Rivalry in the NFL."

Below you'll find two videos we think every Bengals fan (especially those who stood by them in the "Bungles years") needs to see. The first video shows the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Miami Dolphins. In the Tunnel features a slightly obnoxious clip of one fan's rants about South Florida's sports. That, said, he had a good seat in the tunnel where the players go in and out so a little ranting can be overlooked when you see his terrific view. In the clip you can see the Bengals coming out, T.J. Houshmandzadeh showing some love, the first points of the game and much more... including Miami losing to the Bengals 38 to 25. And that makes any onoxious ranting endured worth it. The second video is a Cincinnati Bengals Tribute that rocks out to "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses while watching highlights of the Bengals finest moments in football history. Tackles, touchdowns, the greatest players and everything in between. All the moments that show why Bengals fans have stood strong even through the rough times.
