A Short History of the Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. They play in the AFC North division in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns joined the NFL in 1950 after the AAFC folded. The Browns won the first six consecutive division crowns and went on to win the four NFL Championships in 1950, 1954, 1955, and in 1964. Led by head coach Blanton Collier they won division titles in 1968 and 1969 and lost the championship game thereafter. Although they qualified for the playoffs in 1972, they lost in the first round.
The Browns only shining moment in the 70's was the AFC division Championship in 1971 which they won. In 1985 they drafted Bernie Kosar, who teamed with Earnest Byner and Kevin Mack to power Clevland's resurgence in the mid-1980s. From 1985 through 1985 they made the playoffs and Kosar became one of the NFL's best quarterbacks. The team got to the AFC Championship game in 1986, 1987 and 1989, but each year, they lost to the Denver Broncos. The only mere consolation for the team was winning the AFC Division Championship in the same years. The Cleveland Browns lost five of their final six years in Cleveland. In 1995, Art Modell, the team owner announced he would be moving the team to Baltimore.
Three months following the announcement, which shocked the city of Cleveland and Browns fans, the NFL gave Cleveland a team and the rights to the Browns' name. Modell was given a new franchise, named the Baltimore Ravens, which began playing in 1996. The Browns returned in 1999 under new owner Al Lerner.
Rivalries - The Cleveland Browns have a long running rivalry with the Pittsburgh Steelers, known locally as the Turnpike Rivalry (fans refer to it as this because the cities of Pittsbiurgh, Pennsylvania and Cleveland, Ohio being connected via their turnpike systems. The Browns and Steelers first met in 1950 and their rivalry is still going strong over fifty years later.

If you're a Browns loyalist, you'll like the two videos we've displayed below. The first is a Cleveland Browns Tribute. The video montage of past and present favorite Cleveland Browns moments synchronized to the song "Cleveland Rocks". Brown's fans can enjoy a short clip just of less than three minutesshowing the team's winning tackles and best take downs of all time. Sit back, watch and relax as the Cleveland Browns rock (yes, we know we're bad with the puns) before your very eyes! The second video is called "12 Days of Browns Christmas 2007." The video is essentially a Cleveland Browns Christmas carol to celebrate the possibility of a playoffs clinch. While the Browns finished the 2007 season 10-6, barely missing the playoffs on tie-breaker rules, the video is still worth watching... it's quite entertaining and Browns fans will appreciate it. It's also worth noting that the 10-6 record was the team's best record since 1994 with six players earning Pro Bowl recognition as well.
