A Short History of the Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings are part of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the NFL. They have been a member of the Northern Division since 2002, when the NFL realigned. Prior to the NFL realigning, they were a member of the Center Division.
The team name refers to Minnesota's large population of Scandinavian Americans. The Vikings have been a consistent franchise in the NFL since the late 1960s. The Minnesota Vikings have made four Super Bowl appearances, but lost each one. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Vikings in Super Bowl IV with a final score 23-7.
The team was founded in 1961 after the ownership group pulled out of membership to the American Football League (AFL) and agreed to join the NFL as an expansion team. The Vikings play home games at Metropolitan Stadium through the 1981 NFL season and have played home games at Huber H. Humphrey Metrodome (Home of the Minnesota Twins baseball team) since 1982. The team wears uniforms of purple, gold, and white.
Rivalries - The Minnesota Vikings share a long history and deeply charged rivalry with the Chicago Bears (who they destroyed, 37-13, in their first game as a franchise back in 1961) and the Green Bay Packers (in part due to Randy Moss, with the Vikings in 2005, mooning Packer fans during the playoff game between the two teams).
Do you really want to miss this?
We've put some videos below that we think most Minnesota Viking fans will want to check out. first up, watch Cris Carter's incredible 65 yard touchdown catch in overtime. The move sealed the Minnesota Vikings regular season sweep over the Chicago Bears. Now that the Vikings have Jared Allen, people are wondering if anything can stop them! The second video is a tribute video. Watch the Minnesota Vikings old highlights and see some classic footage of the Vikings from past years. Funny enough, the video was made by an Eagles fan but it's an incredibly good video and worth viewing to see how the Vikings have grown over the years. The video is set to the Minnesota Vikings song.
