A Short History of the New York Giants
The New York Giants are a professional American football team in East Rutherford, New Jersey. They are members of the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the NFL. The team plays and trains for games at Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands Sport Complex, in New Jersey.
In 1925, the Giants joined the NFL alongside four other teams, but they are the only team of the five that still exists today. The team has won seven NFL titles: during pre-Super Bowl era they won four (in 1927, 1934, 1938 and 1956) and three since the commencement of the Super Bowl (XXI, XXV and XLII). The team has honored 15 Hall of Fame players over the years, including NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) awarded to players such as Frank Gifford and Lawrence Taylor. After victory at Super Bowl XLII, the Giants are reigning NFL champions.
To help discern themselves from the professional baseball team also named the Giants, the football team goes by the New York Football Giants. In 1957 the baseball team relocated to San Francisco, but the football team uses "New York Football Giants" as its legal name. Over the years the team has garnered many different nicknames such as "G-Men" and "Big Blue."
Rivalries - The New York Giants count the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets as rivals. Fans would likely consider the Giants vs. Eagles rivalry to be the strongest, followed by the Giants vs. Jets rivalry - both due in part to geographical issues.
