A Short History of the St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams are a professional American Football team in St. Louis, Missouri, members of the Western Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the NFL. The Rams first started playing football in 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio. The NFL deems the franchise a second embodiment to the prior Cleveland Rams that were a charter member of the second AFL. While the NFL did grant membership to the same team owner, the NFL deems the team as separate entities due to only four of the players and none of the team's management joining the new NFL team.
After the team moved to California in 1946, they changed names to the Los Angeles Rams. After the 1979 season, the Rams moved south to nearby Orange County, playing home games at Anaheim Stadium for fifteen seasons (1980 through 1994), keeping the Los Angeles name. In 1995, the team relocated back to St. Louis and that is when they became the St. Louis Rams.
The team has made three appearances at the Super Bowl, with one victory (Super Bowl XXXIV) over the Tennessee Titans. They lost in Super bowl XIV and XXXVI. The Rams have many players that have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame which include Elroy Hirsch, Merlin Olsen, Jack Youngblood and several others.
Rivalries - The St. Louis Rams count the Minnesota Vikings, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seattle Seahawks and the Dallas Cowboys as team rivals.
Do you really want to miss this?
We found two videos to add here to get you excited about heading to see the upcoming Ram games. First, you can see the famous "hurdle" made by Brian Leonard of the St. Louis Rams that has now been dubbed the "Leonard Leap." He is well known for jumping over would-be tacklers. In 2006, he started the season being promoted as a Heisman Trophy candidate. The man is pure magic. Next up, you can sit back and watch a St. Louis Rams NFL pre game football practice . See the Rams from a rare vantage point, up close, doing football practice drills just minutes before the start of the 2007 football season kick off. It's short, but it's the perfect video to get you pumped and in the mood for this season!
