Baseball Power Rankings - 2009 MLB

Major League Baseball started up in April and teams are already starting to separate themselves from the pack. Here’s a look at the power rankings of the best teams in baseball so far in 2009:

1) Florida Marlins
Starting the season 11-1, the Marlins are currently 11-2. Despite not having much on their payroll, Florida has able to piece together a team that has a massive amount of talent. So far in 2009, it looks like that young talent has meshed together beautifully.

Shortstop Hanley Ramirez is the team’s superstar, however players like Dan Uggla, Jeremy Hermida and Jorge Cantu also have the potential to become stars. On the pitching staff, Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco are two key pieces to a nice rotation.

2) Los Angeles Dodgers
Down the stretch of the 2008 season, the Dodgers were one of the best teams in all of baseball. To begin this year, they picked up right where they left off. They have a lot of young talent in Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and James Loney, while Manny Ramirez will make this team even scarier once he’s all the way healthy.

On the pitching staff, 21-year-old phenom Clayton Kershaw looks like the real deal. Chad Billingsley and Randy Wolf are also off to very good starts. Jonathan Broxton has looked comfortable in the closer role so far.

3) Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are first in their division despite playing in the most difficult division in baseball. The AL West this year has three legit World Series contenders in the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and last year’s AL representative in the World Series, the Tampa Bay Rays. The Jays are trying to prove they belong in the conversation. So far, so good.

The hitting stars so far in 2009 have been Aaron Hill, Adam Lind and Marco Scutaro. On the mound, Roy Halladay and Ricky Romero have been outstanding.

In addition to these top three teams, here are the rest of the top 10 in our MLB rankings so far this year:

4) San Diego Padres
5) Seattle Mariners
6) Chicago Cubs
7) Detroit Tigers
8) St. Louis Cardinals
9) Cincinnati Reds
10) Chicago White Sox
