Brett Favre Shines in Week 4

Brett Favre is 38 years old and is turning 39 in about a week. But on Sunday, Favre proved once again he’s still a force at quarterback in the NFL. The ageless wonder had a career-high six touchdown passes to lead the New York Jets over the Arizona Cardinals by a final score of 56-35.

And the scary thing? Favre wasn’t even at 100%. He entered Week 4 with an injured ankle after getting hurt late in Week 3. But apparently Favre, who has started at quarterback in 257 consecutive games, is immune to pain as he was 24-34 for 289 yards to go along with his six touchdowns.

With the Jets riding a two-game losing streak, Favre came out firing against the Cardinals. By the time the dust settled at the end of the first half, Favre had three touchdowns and New York was up 34-0.

The first three of Favre’s touchdown passes were caught by wide receiver Laveranues Coles. After the Cardinals cut the lead to 34-21 at the end of the third quarter, Favre authored three more touchdowns in the fourth – two to wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery and one to rookie tight end Dustin Keller.

While Favre’s current team celebrated in victory, Favre’s former team had to swallow a touch defeat. The Green Bay Packers, where Favre played for the last 16 season, lost their second consecutive game. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers scored ten points in the final three minutes of the game to pull out a 30-21 win.

To add salt to the wound for Green Bay fans, starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers hurt his shoulder during the contest. He’ll be examined on Monday to decide if he needs to miss any time. If Rodgers is sidelined, the Packers won’t be able to turn to Favre because he’s too busy turning back the hands of time and setting personal records for a team from New York.
