Fight Matchups for UFC 90

The next Ultimate Fighting Championship event to be held in the United States will take place on October 25th in Rosemont, Illinois at Allstate Arena. This event, UFC 90, has mixed martial arts fans very excited due to the many quality promised matchups.

The main event will put Anderson Silva against Patrick Cote. Silva, whose nickname is The Spider, is regarded as one of the best pound for pound MMA fighters in the world. He’s been the UFC middleweight champion for nearly two years. The 33-year-old jiu-jitsu black belt from Brazil has a record of 13-4, but has won his last eight fights. His last loss came in January of 2006 when he was disqualified for an illegal kick. The last time his opponent actually beat him was in December of 2004 during a PRIDE fight.

Cote is a Canadian who has a record of 14-4. He has won his last five fights and hasn’t lost since November of 2006. Cote, who was born in the city of Rimouski in Quebec, is currently the TKO Major League MMA champion of the middleweight divison. Wins in his career have come against notables such as Scott Smith, Kendall Grove and Ricardo Almeida.

The main card of UFC 90 is packed with Brazilians. Counting Silva, half of the ten fighters on the main card are from Brazil. Three Americans will fight on the main card (Diego Sanchez of New Mexico, Sean Sherk of Minnesota and Tyson Griffin out of California) and Goran Reljic of Croatia. The five Brazilians are Silva, Thiago Alves, Fabricio Werdum, Junior dos Santos and Thales Leites.

A week prior to this event, UFC 89 will take place across the pond in England. That event will feature the matchup of home country hero Michael Bisping versus Chris Leben of the United States.
