Gina Carano - Women’s MMA Superstar
Mixed martial arts is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. In the world of women’s mixed martial arts, one name stands above all the rest — Gina Carano. Not only is Carano arguably the best women’s mixed martial arts fighter, she’s also arguably the most beautiful. That’s a lethal combination that could make her one of the most recognizable female athletes of the next decade.
However, right now, she’s fighting without an organization. She had been fighting in EliteXC but the mixed martial arts organization was forced to fold in early October. That said, Carano is too good to not end up somewhere.
In Carano’s career, 26-year-old is 7-0. In the last two years, she has four victories in EliteXC — beating Kelly Kobold and Kaitlin Young in 2008, while beating Tonya Evinger and Julie Kedzie in 2007. The other victories in her career came over Elaina Maxwell, Rosi Sexton and Leiticia Pestova.
At 5-foot-8 and 142 pounds, Carano relies on her brute strength and her extensive technical skills. Most of her techniques are from Muay Thai, specific form of martial arts.
Outside of MMA, she has a varied resume. She was in Ring Girls, a film about five female martials arts fighters in Las Vegas. Carano plays Crush on the current run of American Gladiators. She appeared in a reality show called Fight Girls on Oxygen. And her good looks have gotten her notoriety as well, as she’s been voted as the hottest woman in America in various web polls and magazines.
Right now, the most famous MMA organization is the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Could Carano end up with UFC? It’s a possibility but right now the UFC doesn’t feature women’s MMA. Although consider Carano’s immense popularity, there’s a chance she signs with UFC and literally ushers in a new generation of women MMA fighters.
