Green Bay Packers Get Less Training Time
Aaron Rodgers certainly will have his first season as starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers be one that is scrutinized under a microscope due to replacing the man that is statistically the most talented quarterback of all time - Brett Favre. So, the news that the Packer’s would have a shortened practice season may not have been a welcome announcement.
The Packer’s training camp will start on July 18 and will consist of only 23 practices… due in part to playing a total of four preseason games in an 18 day period.
Even though Mike McCarthy said Thursday that he’s “comfortable” with the schedule, the third-year coach readily admitted it will be “different.”
In 2006, McCarthy’s first year, there were 30 practices plus the scrimmage; last year, when McCarthy gave the players Wednesdays off from full practices, the team had 24 practices, including one at old City Stadium, plus the scrimmage.
The packers will play four preseason games in the 2008 season:
GB vs. Cincinnati Bengals - Lambeau Field - 8/11/2008
San Francisco 49s vs. GB - Monster Park - 8/16/2008
Denver Broncos vs. GB - Invesco Field - 8/22/2008
GB vs. Tennessee Titans - Lambeau Field - 8/28/2008
They’ll begin their official season on September 8th, 2008 when they play the Minnesota Vikings in a home-game opener at Lambeau Field. Let’s hope that A-Rod has had enough training to step into his starting QB shoes.
