Kimbo Slice Loses - First MMA Defeat

Kimbo Slice, who went from street fighter to internet phenomenon to MMA fighter, lost for the first time on Saturday night. Seth Petruzelli connected with a punch that landed on Slice’s jaw and after just 14 seconds, the fight was called by the referee.

This fight was part of an EliteXC event called “Heat” Saturday Night Fights that was held in Sunrise, Florida. Shown live on television on CBS, the Slice versus Petruzelli fight was the most talked about fight, but there four other fights on the main card and five fights on the under card.

The interesting aspect for Petruzelli is he wasn’t even supposed to fight Slice. Ken Shamrock was scheduled to fight Slice but had to withdraw from the fight after suffering a laceration. Petruzelli stepped in and proved right away that he was more the up for the test.

With the win, Petruzelli is now 11-4 as an MMA fighter. The 205 pound heavyweight has now won his last three fights. The 34-year-old, 235 pound Slice fell to 3-1 after the loss.

Although this was a huge win for Petruzelli, MMA as a whole probably wished Slice could have remained undefeated. He rose to fame after a number of online videos were made of him engaging in street brawls. His videos on YouTube garnered millions upon millions of hits. Once he decided to become an MMA fighter, he automatically became one of the sport’s biggest stars. However, despite the loss, Slice’s MMA career will undoubtedly continue.

In other action on Saturday night, Jake Shields proved he’s a force to be reckoned with by beating Paul Daley. Andrei Arlovski, nicknamed Pitbull, had a knockout win over Paul Nelson. In a much hyped female match, Gina Carano beat Kelly Kobald to extend her record to 7-0.

MMA fans will get their fill over the next month, with UFC 89 to be held on October 18th and UFC 90 to be held on October 25th.
