NFL Second Round 2008 – Predictions
As we head into the second round of the NFL playoffs, let’s take a look at the matchups.
Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans
Overall, these two teams are similar. Both teams rely heavily on their defense. In fact, the defenses on the field may score more points than the offenses. With the two teams so evenly matched, this game could come down to the running game. The Titans have the best running back in the game in rookie Chris Johnson and he will likely be the difference in Tennessee coming away with the victory.
PREDICTION: Titans 20, Ravens 13
Arizona Cardinals @ Carolina Panthers
The Cardinals struggled down the stretch of the NFL season but they won last week in the opening round of the 2008 playoffs. However, this week, they have a much tougher opponent. The Panthers have been playing very good football and running back DeAngelo Williams is arguably the hottest player in the entire league. Expect Williams to carry the load and for the Panthers to win easily.
PREDICTION: Panthers 31, Cardinals 14
Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants
The reigning Super Bowl champions have a difficult opening game of the playoffs as they take on a team playing their best football of the season. The Eagles are playing very well and they are on top of their game. That said, the Giants will use their Super Bowl experience to pull out a late game victory. Expect Eli Manning to come up big when it matters.
PREDICTION: Giants 17, Eagles 13
San Diego Chargers @ Pittsburgh Steelers
The Chargers stunned the Colts last week but this should be where their run comes to an end. LaDainian Tomlinson will likely miss the game due to a groin injury and he’ll surely be missed. Mix in a very questionable defense for the Chargers and a masterful defense for the Steelers and Pittsburgh should live to see another game.
PREDICTION: Steelers 28, Chargers 12
