Landon Donovan Signing in Germany
Major League Soccer may soon lose one of its best players as Landon Donovan of the Los Angeles Galaxy has indicated he is interested in going back to Germany. Donovan, who has played for Germany two times previously, currently leads the MLS in goals with 19.
Canada Interested in MLS Expansion Teams
With the rising success of Major League Soccer in general and the Toronto FC specifically, two more Canadian cities are showing enthusiastic interest in securing an MLS expansion team. While no announcement is imminent, the cities of Vancouver and Ottawa have ownership groups actively trying to gain entrance into the league.
Real Salt Lake Stadium Will Host MLS 2009 All-Star Game
Officials from both Major League Soccer and RLS (Real Salt Lake, a football club in the MLS) announced last week that the RLS Stadium would be the location for the 2009 All-Star game for the MLS. The $110 million dollar stadium, located in Sandy, Utah, will seat 20,000 fans after it opens in October, 2008. As of now, the date and the opponent for the All-Star game has yet to be announced.
ESPN Disappointed But Hopeful For MLS Soccer Ratings
Though some made it sound as if bringing David Beckham to MLS soccer as part of the L.A. Galaxy team would suddenly make soccer a sensation in the United States, ESPN is finding that turning Americans on to Soccer has been a bit more difficult than they had hoped:
