Terrell Owens a Perfect Fit for Buffalo

The Dallas Cowboys got tired of Terrell Owens and his antics and cut the talented wide receiver. Shortly after his release, Owens was scooped up by the Buffalo Bills. Owens and the Bills agreed to a one-year deal that will pay T.O. more than $6 million for the 2009 NFL season.

For the Bills, this move made a great deal of sense. Without a playmaker of Owens’ caliber, the Buffalo Bills weren’t going to go very far in 2009. But with Owens, anything is possible in Buffalo.

With the addition of Owens, wide receiver Lee Evans will be one of the most dangerous targets in the league. He has good speed, good leaping ability and above average hands. With defenses keyed into trying to stop T.O., Evans will get a lot of one-on-one matchups.

Trent Edwards, the young quarterback for the Bills, suddenly will have a lot of options in the passing game. If Owens isn’t open, he’ll have Evans. When Buffalo wants to run the rock, they have Marshawn Lynch. In Lynch’s first two seasons in the NFL, he has shown very good potential. Adding Owens the equation will open up room for Lynch to live up to all of his capabilities.

The questions for Buffalo will regard whether or not they can keep Owens happy. But considering that Owens is only on a one-year deal, he has millions of incentives to fit in. If T.O. is disruptive, he could very well see the end of his NFL career.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bills aren’t elite but they are definitely talented. Last season, they showed the ability to play at a high level and make big plays. With an offense that should be able to stay on the field, the defense won’t have to carry the team – as has been the case in recent memory for Buffalo.
