Top 10 Bigmen in the NBA

While the Kobes, LeBrons and Dwyanes get most of the attention, most championship teams in NBA history have been built around dominant bigmen. Here’s a look at the top bigmen in the NBA:

10. Amare Stoudemire
Stoudemire is out for the season but when he’s healthy he is a devastating offensive player. Having a clue on defense would allow him to move up these rankings.

9. David West
In the last two years, West has come out of nowhere to become a two-time All-Star. Offensively, he’s the perfect complement to Chris Paul in New Orleans.

8. Chris Bosh
There aren’t many bigmen with more talent than Bosh. If he can get a good supporting cast and figure out how to consistently dominate, the Raptors could rise quickly.

7. Pau Gasol
Kobe Bryant isn’t the only star on the Lakers. Gasol is a star and is young enough that he’s still getting better and better.

6. Yao Ming
Yao, when healthy, has been a force for virtually his entire career with the Rockets. The problem with Yao is keeping him healthy.

5. Al Jefferson
Speaking of health, Jefferson tore his ACL earlier in the season and is out until the start of the 2009-10 campaign. But he’s shown enough to prove he’s an up-and-coming superstar.

4. Dirk Nowitzki
The German born former MVP might be the most well-rounded bigman in NBA history on the offensive end. He can do it all on that end of the court and carries the Mavericks.

3. Dwight Howard
It’s just a matter of time before Howard is the best bigman in basketball. He’s an amazing athlete who has a great motor and will to win.

2. Kevin Garnett
Though his stats have dipped in recent years, Garnett remains an elite bigman. Defensively, he’s a leader for the Celtics and brings energy every night. Offensively, he’s deadly from just about any spot on the floor.

1. Tim Duncan
Duncan isn’t as explosive as he used to be but the four-time NBA champion is still the best at his position. His play is always consistent on both ends of the court and he gives the Spurs a chance to win each and every night.
