The last Ultimate Fighting Championship event of 2008 will take place on December 27th in Las Vegas, Nevada at MGM Grand Garden Arena. This event, UFC 92, will feature some of the biggest names in the sport of mixed martial arts.  UFC 91 was a smashing success in terms of attendance and pay per view figures and UFC 92 may even be able to top it. Here’s a look at the fight matchups for this event:

Rashad Evans versus Forrest Griffin
This matchup is one of the two most hyped fights on the UFC 92 main card. Griffin is the light heavyweight champion and Evans is regarded as his top challenger. With the light heavyweight championship on the line, expect both of these American fighters to put on an epic show.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira versus Frank Mir
The other hyped fight is this heavyweight matchup. Nogueira from Brazil will fight the hometown kid with a lot on the line. The winner will get to face Brock Lesnar in a fight that will determine the heavyweight champion. While the Las Vegas born Mir isn’t as experienced as Nogueira, he’s expected to put up a good challenge.

Quinton Jackson versus Wanderlei Silva
The biggest name at UFC 92 will arguably be Quinton Jackson. Jackson is one of the most famous MMA fighters in the world and he’ll be making his return to the sport after getting arrested in July of 2008. His fight against Silva may very well end up being the most exciting fight of the night.

Mike Massenzio versus CB Dollaway
In the middleweight bout on the main card, two fighters from the United States will battle. Dollaway is the early favorite but Massenzio has looked impressive in recent tuneup fights.

Mostapha Al-turk versus Cheick Kongo
This European matchup will be the other heavyweight matchup on the main card. Kongo is from France and Al-turk is out of the United Kingdom. Although Kongo is 33 years old and Al-turk is 34, this fight is an important step in their career as the winner will be one step closer to a championship fight.
