UFC 95: Sanchez vs. Stevenson - Results

On February 21st, UFC 95 took place in London, England. This mixed martial arts event featured a number of very good fights and exciting finishes. UFC 95 aired live in Canada and Europe, while it was tape delayed on Spike in the United States.

The main fight of the night two Americans going head to head in a lightweight bout. By unanimous decision, Diego Sanchez was able to defeat Joe Stevenson. Two judges scored the fight 30-27, while the other judge scored it 29-28. Although this fight was somewhat close, the judges made the right call.

The crowd roared the loudest when Dan Hardy of England knocked out Rory Markham of the United States in the first round. With the win, Hardy extends his winning streak to five fights and overall his has won ten of his last eleven bouts.

In a middleweight matchup, Nate Marquardt of the United States defeated Wilson Gouveia of Brazil. In the third round, using a flurry of knees and punches, Marquardt was able to win via technical knockout.

In the other middleweight bout on the main card, Brazil got some revenge when Demian Maia beat Chael Sonnen of the U.S. Maia won with a triangle choke submission, which won him an extra $40,000 bonus for getting the Submission of the Night.

In another victory for Brazil, Paulo Thiago scored the Knockout of the Night against American Josh Koscheck. The knockout came in the first round when Thiago unleashed a vicious uppercut. Once the punch connected, the fight was obviously over.

The next UFC event, which will be UFC 96, will take place on March 7th in Columbus, Ohio at Nationwide Arena. The headlining bout in UFC 96 has Quinton “Rampage” Jackson taking on Keith Jardine in a battle of two highly recognized mixed martial arts fighters.
